I was really excited when I found out that a CrossFit box has opened in the West of Edinburgh. In the five weeks since joining, I’ve already noticed brilliant progress in my strength and ability, progress that I’ve never made before in my years and years of doing just about every kind of exercise going! The trainers are brilliant and spend time with every individual in the class, amazing quality of coaching that you would be paying a lot of money for elsewhere. Don’t be afraid to come along and give it a go, everyone at the box is friendly and encouraging with a real focus on individual development.
“Started going to Crossfit Skirmish back when it began in mid January and have loved every minute of it. The coaches are very knowledgeable and offer extra one on one help when required. The other members are fantastic and I’ve made some great friendships already. With every workout being mentally and physically challenging, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to get in shape or looking for a new challenge
Where to start… All my life I’ve been active in sports, when I could no longer kick a ball I took up triathlon and loved it for 12yrs, I’m a keen MTBer too, done The Strathpuffer 24hr. I swam across The Forth last year….. so i’m sporty. 2014 was a very bad year, I broke the head of femur clean off my right thigh and the resultant hip replacement meant I had to bin triathlon :(. I joined Energy Gym after moving to the area at Christmas. Subsequently I joined Crossfit Skirmish with no great expectations as a 49yr old endurance athlete with an artificial hip and no power/strength worth talking about. And my review: I’m lovin it !!!! There are I think 6 one hour sessions available a day, so it’s easy to fit in to any diary, the sessions start with a fun warm up, about 30-35 mins of technique and then a proper workout of 5-20 mins followed by a stretch’n’cooldown. The content of the hour is totally varied… there’s proper weight work with a lifting bar, gymnastic moves like rings and fun stuff like handstands. There’s box jumping and the usual circuit class stuff like press ups, sit ups, burpees… But what I really like is that each activity, is broken down and explained carefully but with a good dose of banter, no-one is left out e.g. I started doing the weight section with broom handles and unweighted empty bars, anyone can do that, it was fun. But progress is quick, weights on the bars are getting fatter and I am getting fitter!! I can honestly say that I’ve never seen results so quick or felt this much improvement in any programme I’ve done before. I was walking with a stupid, embarrassing and annoying limp at Christmas and Crossfit killed it! My core is unbelievably better and I walk normally now. Result !! The coach is great, it’s hugely inclusive and everyone is enthusiastic. Let the journey continue.
I’ve never looked forward to getting up so early in my life before. Love the 6:30am WOD’s. Fantastic atmosphere and excellent tuition. I can feel my fitness improving already and I’ve only been doing this a month. I no longer recognise days of the week – just crossfit days or non crossfit days!
